  • Islamic ruling about eating pork

In Islam, pork is forbidden, aside from verse 145 of Surat al-An’am. There is no reference in the Shar’i scriptures for a precise justification for this ban.  Avoiding pork is a fundamental dietary principle in Islam (Qur’an 5:3; 6:145), serving as a means of preserving Muslim identity. The ban is so significant. That it carries a three-month prison sentence in the Islamic Republic of Iran for bringing pork into the nation.

  • Judaism prohibition eating pork

The prohibition has been used as a means of expressing and contesting Jewish identity in Judaism. For instance, the Maccabean texts explain how the Seleucid ruler Antiochus Epiphanes’ effort to force Jews to consume pork. And their reluctance to do so led to the Maccabean insurrection. God specifies two conditions in the Bible that an animal must meet in order to safely eat. For a jew, animals must have split hooves and eat their cud. Pigs do not eat their cud, despite having split hooves.

Hence they are unable to consume pig flesh and its byproducts. They are only allowed to consume fish with both wings and scales when it comes to seafood.

Here is evidence from the bible;

These are the animals you may eat, the ox, the sheep, the goat, the deer, the gazelle, the reobuck, the wild goat, the ibex,  the antelope, and the mountain sheep.

Any animals that divides the hoof and has the hoof oloven in two, and

chews the cut, among the animals, you may eat. Yet of those that chew the cud or have the hoof cloven you shall not eat these: the camel, the hare, and the rock-badger, because they chew the cud but do not divide the hoof, they are unclean for you. And the pig, because it divides the hoof but does not chew the cud, is unclean for you. You shall not eat their meat, and you shall not touch their caroasses. (14:5-8 of lev 11:2-8)

  • Compared to other animals, pork flesh absorbs poisons relatively quickly. Because of these toxins, pork is fatal.
  • Pigs are so deadly that you cannot kill them even by injecting them with strychnine. They are already that poisonous.
  • With four stomachs, a cow can quickly and efficiently digest its meal. The pig takes longer than 4 hrs to digest, turning the meal into actual meat.
  • The pig flesh is so awful. It has lines extending down all of its legs towards its feet, which are constantly oozing pus. Eventually, this mixture combines with their flesh, and when someone eats it. They are consuming Pus full of fatal illnesses.
  • Pigs will consume everything, including their waste. It indicates that when pigs eat excrement, cancer develops in the pig, which is highly contagious to other pigs.
  • Pigs do not perspire. So their perspiration and other toxins which are in fact fatal merge into their bodies. This is a significant factor in human cancer development.
  • As of right now, no acceptable cooking temperature has been established for the pig. Ensure that all harmful bacteria, parasites, and other toxins are eliminated.
  • Pigs have four times as much fat as beef does. Consuming a lot of fat puts you at risk of developing heart disease and other heart issues.
  • The uncleanness of swine has an impact on you, the consumer, both physically and spiritually. Most illnesses begin spiritually before becoming physically apparent. You run the danger of contracting severe ailments brought on by worm infestations if you eat pig.

Scientific and medical justifications to forbid pork

The pig is thought to be a transporter of germs. Those are detrimental to the human body, among other animals, according to scientific and medical studies.

It would take too much time to describe all of these dangerous diseases in detail. But I may list them briefly as parasite diseases, bacterial diseases, viral diseases, and so on.

These and other negative consequences show that the Great Lawgiver only forbade pork for a cause. Namely to safeguard health and life, which are two of the five essential needs covered by Shariah.

So, do Muslims eat pork or not has been explained with the reasons and in the light of Islam.

What would happen if a Muslim ate pork unintentionally?

“And there is not sin on your concerning that in which you made a mistak, except in regard to what your hearts deliberately intent. And Allah is even Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [al-Ahzab 33:5]

Muslims commit no sin if they unintentionally consume pig flesh.

Muslims should take precautions when eating. Especially, if you are in a non-Muslim nation where the populace consumes unclean foods. The right perspective, however, is that pig-related impurities should only be cleansed once.
